Two burglaries occurred last Tuesday evening. Dillon bowling alley was entered through a back door, with about 15 dollars in cash, cigarettes, and candy taken. A nearby slaughter house owned by the Cash Market was broken into the same night, two dressed hogs stolen. Police suspect two schoolboys who vanished that night.
John Peterson of Grant narrowly escaped injury when his Franklin sedan turned over after skidding on an icy stretch Tuesday. The car suffered heavy damage.
A. B. Clements, once a Dillon resident and Butte banker, died in Portland on December 81 at age 68. Annapolis graduate, Navy commander, he commanded Mare Island officers training. buried at Arlington National Cemetery. He married Esther McKay in Dillon and later lived in California. He enjoyed outdoor sports and owned fine horses and a dog kennel.
Ben Hamilton, charged with killing Deputy Sheriff Louis Bancroft Bill Withington Jr. and Len Cummings of Salmon, was captured five miles north of Ten Day Idaho after attempting a dash for liberty from a barn. He was shot in the foot head and chest and died hours later from shotgun wounds. Sheriff Matt Stewart led the posse in one of the region’s most intense manhunts.
Leonard Nason, a Chicago Tribune verse contributor, gained wartime fame from his pieces in magazines like Adventure and American Legion Magazine. A former private then sergeant in the eighteenth U.S. Cavalry, he served at Chateau Thierry as an observer and liaison sergeant, survived shelling, gas, torpedo, and shipwreck, and later published Chevrons, hailed as a top private’s view wartime story.

Wednesday January 4 appointments for county fair association terms. bonds and reports reviewed including county physician contract and farm inmate count.
