McDowell proposes land script for soldiers to spur western settlement
Lieutenant Governor W. W. McDowell of Montana returns from Washington with a plan to issue negotiable land script to all honorably discharged soldiers. The script would buy early entry rights to 40 acre tracts, boost taxable land, and enable veterans and others to acquire government land without immediate homesteading. He argues the measure would supplement existing Interior plans, quicken settlement, and expand land markets across western states.
