Editor F C Kress Dies of Heart Failure in Dillon
F C Kress editor and publisher of the Dillon Examiner died overnight after a brief illness. He suffered asthma while dining Wednesday and was found dead at his home by Dr W W Kingsbury. He had long served Dillon as a leading citizen, Democrat partisan, and board member of the Montana State Normal College. He came to Dillon in 1891 and built the Examiner into a democratic county publication. Mrs Kress expected home soon to learn funeral plans.

Women’s Relief Corps presented an engaging program led by president Mrs. A L Anderson at Odd Fellows Hall. Dr. Tilden led the national hymn, Mrs. Tillie Scott spoke on Washington, Mrs York shared John Brown incidents, and Judge Conger recounted Booth’s capture.

Robbers Enter Two Homes In City On Sunday Night
Two city residences were entered by unknown burglars last Sunday evening. At Sam Haines house on South Idaho Street the thief broke a back window pane and rummaged rooms but took no money or goods. Prof. Robbins and Mr. and Mrs. Haines were away at the time. In Will Jones basement the intruder sought access but did not enter the main area, taking only some jelly, canned fruit and wine observed so far.

The Methodist Episcopal church hosted a crowded WCTU event with six contestants. Carrie Oliver won the National Union silver medal for an exceptional elocution performance judged by Rev. Dr. Tilden Rev. S A Lough and Rev. S D Hooker. Music and speeches pleased attendees.

A letter from an attendee recalls the February 14 Valentine Ball at George Gray's road house on Grasshopper. About 150 guests from Wisdom, Fox, Jackson, Dillon, Horse Prairie, Polaris, Grasshopper, Bannack gathered for an 8:30 pm grand march and dancing to music by John and Pendergest of Butte and Robert Jaggers of Bannack, with the hall lavishly decorated and a midnight banquet served by Misses Orpha Oneal Oni2 Harrison and Grace Gray.

Alder company mines sold at sheriff sale Summit
Sheriff Kadel sold the Alder company property at Summit to settle a district court judgment for 107,870.85 dollars. The bid comes from Charles G. Brown of Omaha for Senator Millard and Guy Barton of Omaha, tying up decades of Alder gulch operations and injury suits. The Kearsarge mine, 60 stamp mill, electric plant and related buildings were included. mines have not operated since October.

At Dillon theatre last Saturday Beaverhead County High School edged Anaconda 26 to 14 in a well played boys basketball game. Officials Raymond Noyes of Dillon and Joe Horn of Anaconda called a fair contest as crowds cheered a crowd-pleasing finish. Afterward the Beaverhead students hosted a reception for the Anaconda team.

Shakespearean Evening at the Library Draws Large Crowd
A large Tuesday crowd filled the library for the third Shakespeare program by the Shakespeare Club led by Mrs. Kingsbury. Miss Bishop and Miss Dorchester narrated Stratford visits and Shakespeare works while four scenes from The Taming of the Shrew were performed with Katharina and Petruchio roles praised. Dr. Martin urged locals to use the library freely and feel at home there.
