The Self Made Man Washington Birthday Tale
A humorous tale follows Farmer Samuels who prides himself on being self made yet lacks formal schooling. A disguised tramp claiming to be George Washington visits, shares feasts, and inflates Samuels’s ego before absconding with valuables, leaving neighbors laughing at the hoax and Samuels vowing to seek justice. The piece ends noting Martha Washington’s birth year.
