Mothers and Daughters Program Thrives at High School

The Parent Teacher Meet drew 500 to 600 attendees at the high school gymnasium as the Mothers and Daughters program organized by the Parent Teachers Association proved highly successful. Prizes went to families with largest groups and oldest twins amid performances of Girlhood Now and Then and Seven Ages of Womanhood, with essays on A Tribute to My Mother read aloud.

County Commission Reverses Precinct Changes

During a Wednesday session the board revoked the December order to abandon Coolidge and Barrett precincts and add sites to adjoining districts. The action follows an attorney general opinion that boundary changes are not allowed in an election year. Mrs. Maggie Smith Hathaway of Helena met with the board regarding county poor cases.

Degrees Sought by Students of Beaverhead County

Three Beaverhead county students are among 189 State University applicants for spring quarter degrees. Mary Ballard and Georgia Mae Metlen of Dillon seek bachelor of arts in English and teaching certificates. James Price of Dell applies for a business administration degree.

Beavers Winning Streak Extends With Twin Bridges Triumphs

Beavers, led by Vandegrift with 19 points, routed Twin Bridges 24 to 12 at Normal gym last Wednesday. Coconaugher and Seyler contributed in the second half as Beaver guards stifled Twin Bridges, while Beaverettes and boys both beat Sheridan at Normal college gym Saturday with dominant defense.

State College Man Inspects Potatoes

E. E. Isaacs of Montana State college horticultural extension visited Dillon for official business. He conducted a grading and sorting demonstration of seed potatoes at the Montana Mercantile warehouse and of tubers raised by high school agriculture department members.

Relief payments due for January in Dillon

The Dillon public is informed that January relief payments are now due and payable to Sam Wilkinson, treasurer, at the State Bank and Trust Co.

Dillon Men Named Woolgrower Heads Dillon

One of the largest delegations from the county attended the Montana Woolgrowers association state convention in Bozeman last week. W. G. Gilbert of Dillon was elected vice-president for the coming year, and Howard Morse was named a trustee member. Also in attendance were Edwin Whitworth, Berg Christensen, Andy Williams, Lt. Gov. Hazelbaker, and C. A. Bergenod.

Jury List for District Court Session Declared

The February term of the district court will convene on Monday February 15 with Judge Lyman L. Bennett presiding. The docket lists twelve old cases and one criminal action set through March 7, plus jurors called from Dillon and nearby districts for service during the session.

The Normal Bulldogs lost 40 to 16 to Brigham Young University in a crowded gym. Normal guards Jones limited BYU star Romney to two baskets with no personals as BYU led 21-10 at halftime. second-half play featured many reserves on both sides.

Preston C. Brown, longtime clerk at the J C Penney store in Dillon, was transferred to Missoula last week and on February 1 began duties as assistant manager of the Penney store there. Dillon friends regret their departure.

Dray Team Dashes Home Endangering Dillon Residents

A well known Dillon dray team owned by Charles Hignight ran from the freight depot to the Hignight home on Kentucky Avenue before being stopped by Chief of Police Nelson. The unusual scene caused a brief thrill for residents Wednesday.

Hospital Grounds to Be Beautified This Spring

At a recent board meeting plans to improve and beautify the hospital grounds were discussed. Local groups have offered labor and the city county state forestry departments will supply shrubs and trees free of charge. Final details will be reviewed at the March meeting, with work starting when weather permits and additional donations sought.

Ranchman of Stone Creek Summoned After Sudden Illness

George W. Murray longtime Stone Creek ranchman dies at his home near Dillon after a brief illness. A Montana resident since 1891 he ranch on Blacktail Creek for years. Survived by widow two sons Harold Warren two sisters and a grandchild born May 18 1869 in South Boston Virginia. He came to Montana earlier in life.

Miss Florence Nedrow and James Guidici, popular Dillon residents, were quietly married Monday afternoon by Rev Tim othy Clifford of Lima. The bride, a Beaverhead County High School and Montana State Normal College graduate, has worked at the local telephone exchange for the past three years.
