At the Beaverhead chapter of the Montana Education association meeting last Thursday M P Moe state secretary discussed needed school legislation to improve Montana schools and the Saco pupil strike. Conrad Orr Beaverhead county high school principal spoke on a possible new teacher tenure law. A high school ensemble performed and delegates for the state assembly in Great Falls were named. About 45 attended.

Tash Receives Top Price for Yearling Hereford Bull
Polaris Special W 8S Tash of Grasshopper valley, a 17 year Hereford breeder, sold a purebred yearling bull for 450 dollars, the highest Beaverhead county price. Don Perfect sired the bull, bought by Mrs. Guy Bird of Twin Bridges for a herd bull. Tash keeps 150 purebred cows and 1000 high grade stock cattle. Bird runs a Hereford herd in Twin Bridges.

Club Women Plan Future Meetings and February Dinner
At the Business and Professional Women's club meeting held in the city hall council room plans were made for future events. Dr L G Dunlap of Anaconda will discuss a European trip and women’s status abroad at the February 9 dinner at the Andrus hotel. An initiation and emblem dinner are set for February 23 at Armstead Roselle cabins. Fern Schuyler chairs the membership program. New members Marie Knox Weston Strasser Mary Moll eur and Bertha Thibadeau were voted in. Reverend Margaret Clifford of Kalispell will make her annual visit.

Rural Social Problems Are Rotary Topic
The Dillon Rotary meeting last Monday at Andrus grill heard a talk titled The Rural Problem From the Sociological Viewpoint. Harold M. Warner chaired as the speaker outlined factors making rural solutions difficult and urged serious general consideration. William Boetticher read Moonshine, Sam Wilkinson spoke on the cemetery project, and plans for Mountain View cemetery water and piping improvements were noted. Rev. Willis J. Loar will discuss Scouting next week, with Mary Castles set for a music program and Joe Wedum as chairman.

Bulldogs Rout Eastern Montana in Weekend Pair
Montana Normal Bulldogs crushed the Eastern Montana Normal Yellowjackets 86 to 71 on Friday and 57 to 32 on Saturday, keeping them in Montana small college conference contention. Lee led with 14 points Friday and 11 Saturday as Dillon’s second unit again saw action. Northern Montana College visits for a two game series starting Friday.

Tickets Selling Fast for District Basketball Tournament
C A Bechler, tournament committee chairman, reports brisk sales of reserved seats for the district tournament set for February 24 26. Only 137 seats remain and tickets are on sale at Gosmans Drug Store. The event features five sessions and 11 games.

State Fur Breeders Form Montana Association in Dillon
Progressive fur raisers and breeders in Dillon formed the Montana Fox and Fur Breeders association the first in the state. Chester I Hale elected president with H E Andrus as vice president and several others named to the executive committee. Dues set at 3 dollars, membership drive planned statewide. The group discussed a fur school or a live fur bearing show for next fall.

International club gains new books for library
The International Relations club at the Normal college received new volumes including The Defense of the Empire, Rebuilding Trade by Tariff Bargaining, Reciprocity, Is America Afraid, and The Family of Nations. These works were donated by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace with Professor Rush Jordan as sponsor. Paul Boetticher of Shelley, Idaho visited his mother and will go to Lima as a relief telegraph operator for a short period.

County men rank high in 1987 trapshooting
Ted Renfro of Dell was the second high trapshooter in Montana for 1987 with an average of 9.98 on 700 birds, narrowly behind G H Eries of Glendive who led with .9641 on 1700 targets. Four Beaverhead County men placed among the top ten, with R W Forrester of Dillon third at .9592 on 1300 targets.

TVA Suit Opens First Three Judge Federal Court
In Washington a three judge federal panel opened hearings on the TVA act and its authority to sell electricity. Commonwealth and Southern and allied utility firms challenge TVA arguing power generation and private competition goals. Bannack Postoffice to Close February 15
A Dillon daily report states the Bannack postoffice will officially close February 15. After closure, all mail will be handled through the Dillon post office. Bannack residents are reportedly preparing a petition to the postal department seeking reinstatement of their historic postoffice. Edward J. Donovan of Kalispell has arrived in Dillon to become bookkeeper at the Standard Lumber.

Saints Fall to Dillon Beavers in Tough District Rivalry
Dillon Beavers stretched their win streak to ten with a 25-15 victory over St Peters of Anaconda. In the rematch Dillon won 22-13 at Smelter City as Cashmore led with 12 points and Chore added six for the Saints.

Ice Carnival Set For Next Sunday In Dillon
The first Dillon ice carnival will be staged next Sunday at the municipal rink near Barrett hospital. Prizes for first and second place will be donated. Races start at 1 pm with 220 yard events for boys and girls under 10, 440 yard events for under 14, and 440 yard free for all for men and for women and girls. A band directed by Lt A Gregory will perform.
