Former Resident of Dell Dies in Miles City

Beaverhead residents learned of the sudden death of H. C. Patterson in Miles City after a brief illness. Born November 11, 1864 in St. Charles Missouri, he ran a large Sheep Creek basin ranch and operated a Dell hotel and store. He served two terms as county commissioner. Interment was in Lima. surviving wife, Clay Jr. ranches near Dell.

Funeral of Miss Beth Smith Held in Butte

Miss Ardath Elizabeth Smith died Thursday morning in Phillipsburg after pneumonia led to meningitis. She taught at Strate Normal College Dillon and had been teaching further at Monida. Her funeral was at Gateway mortuary in Butte with interment at Holy Cross cemetery.

Snoden Pleads Not Guilty to Murder

Al Sneiden pleads not guilty in district court to murder in the first degree for the death of Samuel Bates. He is held without bonds at the county jail with trial set for January 14. Bates died after being struck with a stove poker in Lima on November 20. an inquest in Butte blamed Sne den and County Attorney T E Gilbert filed formal charges. Attorney John Collins from this city is appointed to defend.

Mrs James E Phillips longtime Beaverhead resident died after a several months illness in Anaconda hospital She was 75 Born in Pullman Illinois she leaves husband Coroner James E Phillips a sister in New York and many friends The funeral was held at the Methodist Episcopal church with Rev H B Ricketts officiating and burial in Mountain View cemetery

Beaverhead County Advances Large Highway Program

Beaverhead county commissioners accept a plan to match federal and state aid with 20000 dollars of county funds. The project would connect Dillon to Melrose about 30 miles and reroute east of the railroad to avoid crossings. Additional 12 mile Dillon to Daly spur segment and an 80 mile route toward the Big Hole battlefield are proposed for future funding.
