The Woothutta Summer Boarder and Dora Lyle Affair
In a Georgia village near Atlante in the early 1850s a farmers’ romance between William Fletcher Herndon and Dora Lyle ends when Dora elopes with a wealthy summer boarder who arrives in 1852. After news reaches Will, he seals himself in isolation, swearing a deadly oath to avenge Dora if harm comes to her. The tale frames a dramatic fall from childhood love to betrayed trust and grim solitude.
