Holidays to Be Noted by Special Christmas Show in Dillon

Dillon schedules a Christmas jamboree on December 18 with Old St. Nicholas and Eskimo dog teams headed by Earl Hammond of Aurora Nebraska. Forger Sentenced to Two Years in State Penitentiary

Records show Hoban was sent from Beaverhead County to Deer Lodge State Prison for a two year term and was released only days earlier.

Weather Worries Ranchers Over Mild Fall Conditions

Ranchers and stockmen fret as forecasts promise snow and colder weather but October and November in Beaverhead report mild warmth. Normal college data show November average highs near 55.8 F and lows around 21 F with no sustained snowfall. only trace rain fell after Oct. 26, raising moisture concerns for next year.

Rotary speaker outlines Swift and Company meat packing

W G Gilbert Montana Woolgrowers association president spoke at the Dillon Rotary on Swift and Company operations in Chicago Boston and New York City during a September tour. He described daily stock data flow to set livestock prices and the plant's organization serving 7000 towns. Gilbert noted meat packing is a major industry. Montana ranks fifth among states. Ed Hilger presided. George Stewart and others attended.

Jennings Convicted on Six Federal Banking Charges

W. C. Jennings, a Twin Bridges banker, was found guilty on six counts of violating national banking laws after a 23 hour jury deliberation. He was sentenced to three years in a federal penitentiary and was taken to McNeil Island, Washington, after the verdict.

Beavers Open Basketball Season at Normal College Gym

Beaverhead County High School basketball opens the season with a home game at the Normal College gym on Saturday December 9 against Harrison. Coach Harold Babcock notes a full schedule and potential district state honors, while the new high school gym dedication on January 12 awaits an opponent likely Pocatello or Havre.

Frank Tate of Melrose Pioneer Rancher Dies

Frank P. Tate 78 a prominent Melrose rancher died this morning at his ranch after a long illness. He was born June 11, 1861 in Boone county Missouri and moved to Melrose in 1882 at age 21. He later ranched from 1888 and held I O O F Bannack lodge No 3 and Rebekah Melrose No 106 memberships. Surviving include two daughters and sons in law L W Hoffman Dillon and R B Edgar Aberafer Idaho a son Ernest L Tate Melrose a daughter in law H D Tate Melrose seven grandchildren and several half brothers. Funeral Sunday at 2 pm at Melrose Presbyterian Church with burial in Melrose Cemetery. The body is at Brundage funeral home.

Xmas Seal Sale Campaign Commences

The annual tuberculosis seal campaign begins in the county with Mrs. Loren Davis as local chair man. Rockwell Kent designed this year's seal showing an angel against a blue background and a double barred cross emblem. The cross carries historical use as a peace symbol from 1902 and links to Crusade leaders, the Lorraine cross, and a World War I division insignia.

County Board Renews Appointments and Licenses in Dillon Session

Beaverhead county commissioners reappointed W. Tash W. G. Gilbert and A. I. Cashmore to the high school board for two years ending Jan 1 1942. W W Hawkins D A Galt and Tom Bu Bois were named to the county fair association for two years ending Dec 1 1941. Ella Leland Anderson and Miss May Sprinkle were reap pointed to the examiner's board for one year ending Jan 1 1941. A Dec 27 special meeting will consider state liquor licenses for vendors outside Dillon and Lima. county license set at 50 per year or 25 for shorter terms. Louis Givogre of Wisdom granted license. The board also reset the 2.00 per capita tax and poor tax.

Beav erhead High School awards nineteen football letters

The Beaverhead county high school football squad members received letters at the annual B club banquet hosted by Miss Clara Plant. About 45 players, faculty, and trustees attended. Game violator is sentenced in Idaho case

Lee Christensen of Sterling Idaho was arraigned by Judge Genie Opp and fined 27 dollars fifty cents and given a 90 day jail term for trapping offenses.

Infant Daughter Catherine Mary Platt Dies at Four Months

Death occurred Friday morning at Barrett hospital for four month old Catherine Mary Platt daughter of Mr and Mrs John Platt ranchers north of Dillon. She had been ill since birth July 13. Survived by parents a brother John Jr a sister Dorothy Ann two uncles Matt Plutt and Joe Plutt of Butte two aunts Mrs John Zügel and Mrs Barbara Perditz and families. Turkey Shoot Attracts Shooters From Several Towns

The Dillon Gun club held a large turkey shoot east of town drawing contestants from Anaconda Butte Sheridan Lima and Dillon. Herman Peterson won six birds with a four yard handicap. Winners ranged from one to three birds with many gunners to receive their turkeys later in the week.

Beaveread County Rancher George Rebich Dies at 73

George Rebich an early Beaverhead county rancher and immigrant from Austria died last Sunday at his daughter Lucy Spehar's home north of Dillon. Born February 9 1866 he came to America in 1884 lived in Brooklyn then Montana with work at Stau dacher’s ranch Hecla and Butte, later ran a Barretts area ranch near Dillon until retirement in 1920 then lived in California before returning to Dillon two years ago He is survived by four sons John George Joe Rebich of Dillon and Mike Rebich of Blaine a daughter Lucy Spehar of Dillon a brother Mike of Dillon two sisters Mrs Joe Butala of California and Mrs Lucy Glecow of Great Falls and many grandchildren Rosary was said and last rites conducted with interment at Mountain View cemetery.

Reichle Woman Buried at Whitehall

Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Lela Tailor were held Wednesday at the Whitehall Methodist church. Tailor died Sunday at her Reichle home after several weeks of illness. Survived by son Hildreth Tailor of Reichle and daughter Mrs. Frank Siria of Melrose.

Memorial to Absent Ones Paid by Elks

The Dillon lodge No. 1554 Elks held their memorial exercises honoring absent brothers with an Americanism themed program. Rev. Father F. X. Lechner delivered an inspirational address joined by out-of-town members, and music was provided by a selected orchestra and a ladies’ chorus directed by L. A. Gregory and Mrs. Vera Cooke Hazel.
