In the Marianna mines of the Pittsburg Buffal o Coal company near Pittsburg a blast entombed more than 100 miners. Officials estimate up to 125 may be trapped with many foreigners among the victims. The Rachel and Agnes mines form a connected double shaft. The cause remains undetermined with two theories—gas pocket ignited by a lamp or gas from a Fulton farm well seeping into the workings.
