Beaverhead county commissioners held a regular session August 4 1919. Actions included granting Fred Rife leave of absence for 30 days, opening bids for a concrete coal bin and bunker, approving claims, and authorizing coal for Mrs. Kate Fitzharris. Concrete paving surges ahead on city streets
The concrete crew reports rapid progress with about 25 percent more concrete laid in an eight hour shift since work began. Three five ton trucks haul gravel and sand from the washing plant a mile north of town near Dillmont park while another truck delivers cement to the mixer. Montana street paving runs from Sebree to Bannack then proceeds south to Reeder and Idaho with excavation at South Idaho starting Tuesday.

No Sugar Shortage Predicted for United States
Washington report to the New York Herald states ample sugar supplies exist with nearly 60,000,000 pounds carried over from last year and retained for 1919 consumption. After exports are deducted, total U S sugar available in 1943 stands at about 8.23 to 8.55 billion pounds, indicating a glut rather than shortage.

Dr Finch Returns Home From France Assignment
Dr. Finch Grant E Finch recently returned to Dillon after six months as an instructor in a government school in France. He visited relatives on his route home, followed by his daughter Miss Helen. He wore a soldierly uniform, spoke of his time abroad, and noted Professor Toan spent most of the war in Germany with the army of occupation.

Browning Couple Leave Dillon for Salt Lake Home
Mr and Mrs Terry Browning departed Dillon Monday night for Salt Lake where they expect to establish a new home. They sold nearly all their household goods and do not plan to return. Friends here are disappointed by their decision to move.

Drops in Montana crop prospects deepen shortages in August
Missoula August 11 a Montana Bureau report shows a sharp slide in crop health from July 1 to August 1 with the average condition at 26.8 percent of normal. Winter wheat yield is estimated at 5.5 bushels per acre, total 3,702,000 bushels, and spring wheat at 20 percent of normal with 7,590,000 bushels anticipated. The state total wheat crop reaches 11,292,000 bushels, across counties west of the continental divide to the Missouri River line, with substantial losses in price and income for farmers. Rye yields are tiny at 4 bushels per acre due to forage needs.

Crop Prospects Deteriorate Across Regions Amid Dry Spells
An August survey shows oats, barley, and flax weakened with much oats cut for hay. Corn, alfalfa, and potatoes hold marginal prospects, while unimproved pastures and range sit at 30 percent normal. Sugar beets, apples, and peas in western irrigated areas show relative improvement despite overall gloomy conditions.

Mr and Mrs John Jensen depart Tuesday for Tav Hus Denmark via Defiver Colo to visit friends before heading to New York to board a ship. They have not decided whether to stay in Denmark or return to the United States, and friends hope they come back to America.

City council reviews paving and lighting costs for business district
At a council meeting the total cost to pave and install lighting in the improvement district is 91 904389. Property owner charges for inside lots 35190 and corner lots 70380, with ten annual payments. A petition seeks including Washington street in the district from Bannack street to the city limits. The Beaverhead county board of county commissioners met as a board of equalization on August 11 1919 to levy taxes. Members present were J E Shaw O M Best and Vera M Baker.
