Sixty of the first five hundred fifty draw entrants have filed up to date in Billings August 5. At the current pace only about one fifth of the farm units will be taken when the thousand names drawn are exhausted. Remaining units will be opened to the public for filing by any eligible citizen who has not used up a homestead right. There are 633 claims in total and all units are expected to be claimed quickly once opened. The land is high quality and irrigation is among the best in the region.
Bozeman August 5 John Carroll was sentenced to one year in the penitentiary for an assault on a Chinaman at Logan. He pled guilty yesterday and will report to the penitentiary at once.

Helena Aug. 5 Judge C E Wolverton sitting for Judge Hunt in the case of the government against Conrad Investment Company prohibits settlement of thousands of acres in northern Montana.
