Mountain Dream and a Painter’s Forbidden Love
In a Montana cabin, a mountain artist meets Carol Cleaves, outlaw Cleaves’s daughter, a girl with Knight the dog. He falls in love, vows to protect her from her brutal stepmother and father, and plans to finish a painting that embodies his dream of her. He contemplates how to help her safely while fearing peril from her family. The tale ends with resolve to keep to himself his feelings until she is safe.
