Indian Bureau cuts red tape aid for Fort Peck settlers
Commissioner Burke with Interior Secretary Fall agrees to suspend strict forfeitures for Fort Peck Reservation homesteaders facing four years of drought and bankruptcy. He says extensions to allow sale of current crops before payment are possible, signaling a liberal policy to help settlers repay as crops improve. The stance has wide West-wide support from settlers, bankers, and railroads who seek productive expansion.
