The columns note hay contracts and labor, visits among neighbors, new ranch purchases and moves, thefts in Grayling, road improvements at Daly's Spur, social events in Deny and Lakeview, and residents shifting focus to farming and stock work amid a busy late summer season.
Special Correspondence from Lakzvisw Montana notes rain has kept hay thin and quality down after a cold late season. A frost on July 92 damaged gardens and wild fruit. Tom Yost moved fifteen hundred cattle to Alaska basin. Fred I Hanson and wife were serenaded on arrival home. A second dance led by William Gerland entertained guests. Myrtle Powers returns from Dillon to enjoy rusticating with Mrs Culver. Road and fence work rouses countywide contention. Fred Hanson remains on Red Rock creek. Shambows move to a new home as the stage line thrives.
J M Page and wife spent Thursday at home and returned to camp Friday with Mrs Burns and daughter. Lena Page returns after five weeks with surveyors. Twin Bridges residents McLain and Leslie Thompson visited Tus Page and family. Dillon guests included Mrs J F Bishop and daughters and Mrs Bishop and daughters from California. Foote of Dillon visited H Uttey and family. Foote and Monroe joined Sunday at Sarach before returning to Dillon.
The state board of equalization fixed railroad assessments last week and Montana railroads are expected to pay about $164 777 in taxes this year with counties collecting more, based on an assumed 15 mill average levy and an added $1 000 000 to track and rolling stock value. The Helena Independent notes that actual county levies will vary and may push total to nearly $200 000, with no county levies set in the month referenced.
