Montana voters showed little interest in the first presidential primary with turnout sparse, especially in Beaverhead. Costs balloon as figures suggest the primary may have run near $200,000 in Butte and could exceed $100,000 statewide. In Beaverhead County 679 total votes were cast, Dillon led with 358, and registration stood at 2,548 with four ballots in use.
