Miss Maytie Utley closes Waterloo school for summer. Ernest Page drives about two hundred cattle to the McCarty range. A bicycle rider, Fred Burtch, collides with an old cow and is upset. wheel damaged but rider unhurt. Local moves by Dr Pease, Mr and Mrs James Page reported. A bridge burned out east of Terry on the No. 12 east bound passenger line Monday afternoon. The mail car caught fire and the mail was completely destroyed. mail clerks escaped with their lives. In Miles City the sixteenth annual convention of the Eastern Montana Woolgrowers Association met in Leighton Hall and discussed sheep raising issues and other business.
The Butte Parochial School girls defeated Dillon High School 16 to 4 in a spirited late Saturday game. Slow start and late trains contributed to Dillon’s struggles as Butte’s quick passing and ball handling overwhelmed the home team. A return match may be planned for next week despite prior doubts.
The acid throwing case at Dewey on March 26 ends when Robt Shultz declines to testify against his wife Mrs. Shultz. County Attorney Poindexter urges peace but warns the charge could be revived in district court if conflict resumes. Justice Hirschman discharges Mrs. Shultz. Also noted are steers shipped from Havre to Whitlash for the Great Northern range and a Baptist church lecture on wit and humor.
Jessie Kennedy, a resort employee at Minnie Smith’s, was found guilty by a jury before Justice Hirschman of assault in the third degree against Lucile Dunnsmore. The jury recommended a $5 fine and waste, with a stay of execution for appeal granted.
Constable Staudaber arrested Bert Phillips at a ranch on Sheep Creek and brought him to Dillon to face charges of stealing. Police allege he took two ladies bicycles a lawn mower a trunk of wearing apparel a wheelbarrow and harness from the Reinhardt stable while the family was away. Items were sold at Tattersall and Dowell secondhand stores and a father’s crosscut saw was sold at Dowell as well. Phillips, aged 18 or 19, waived examination in Justice Woods court and is jailed on $400 bond, facing penitentiary time or reform school placement.
Levi Cartier Jr who faced trial since December for horse stealing was found not guilty by Judge McClernan in Butte. The case involved a grey mare allegedly stolen from A. J. Roberson a year ago. Cartier was later arrested on a similar charge filed by the county attorney.
