District Court Opens Term in Beaverhead County
The April term began with Judge Poindexter presiding. Burr Erwin pleaded guilty to conducting a game of chance and was fined 100 dollars, with a warning that future gambling cases would face jail. Several criminal actions and new filings followed, including cases against Kula, Burch, and Whitehead, plus citizenship and bond decisions. The jury also found Otis not guilty of burglary and later convictain petit larceny. Paulin was acquitted of grand and petit larceny charges.

Mrs. Cosgrove Loses Right Eye In Weakened Whip Incident
Mrs. John Cosgrove of Dillon was struck in the right eye when a whip snapped at home on South Pacific street. A strand of electric wire tied to the whip end cut the eyeball. doctors fear loss of sight though the eye may yet be saved. She is at Murray hospital with husband and father present.

Fire Destroys Old Landmark on North Washington Street
A small frame dwelling owned by Mrs. George Howard on North Washington street was destroyed by a Wednesday afternoon fire at 1 00. Samuel Warr and family narrowly escaped with help from neighbors and a bucket brigade. The blaze started in the kitchen from a stove and gutted the house within 15 minutes before the volunteer fire department arrived. Loss estimated at 500 with no insurance. hay storage behind the house survived.

Bridge Plans Approved For Big Hole Crossing At Divide
Beaverhead and Silver Bow counties study a steel bridge over the Big Hole near Divide power plant. W T George and A W Worley led design work with bids to follow a July 1 start. Cost set at 15000 dollars shared equally by the two counties with safety against high water.

The University of Montana Interscholastic Committee prepares for the state high school track meet in Missoula from May 2 to 16 with an expected 800 athletes. Accredited schools number 48, with non accredited allowed at their own travel expense. Prizes include the Missoula cup, relay cups, and a three-time winner’s cup, with an eleventh annual meet under way.

Dick Wadams Dies After Pneumonia at Sister’s Home
Richard Wadams died last Saturday morning from pneumonia contracted while attending a February horse sale in the city. Funeral held Sunday in Lima drew many old-time friends. Born August 4 1852 in Stevenson county Illinois he crossed plains to Colorado in 1860 and later moved to Bannack Idaho then to Bedrock near Lima where he ranched. He married Mary Maynard in July 1897 and is survived by the widow, his mother Mary J Wadams and three sisters in Jackson Hole and Idaho, with Duncan Wadams in Idaho. Pearl Neidt visited Carmen Idaho recently and served as bridesmaid at the Watson Farnham wedding.

Radium Found in Beaverhead Mines Near Armstead
Three Butte men Patrick Morris James P Kelly and Peter Madden report a big radium bearing pitchblende body in the North Star district 34 miles from Armstead and 10 miles from Brenner on the Gilmore Pittsburg line. They claim ore carrying copper silver gold and lead with about 150 tons blocked for shipment and describe a primitive radium testing method and extraction notes.
