The Crusade for Freedom marches nationwide and comes to Dillon next Wednesday October 4 with Lights On night. Local citizens are asked to burn porch lights as Boy Scout Troop No 14 circulates petitions to sign the Freedom Scroll for display in Berlin on United Nations Day October 24 1950. Contributions support behind the curtain broadcasts from Western Germany.

Earth Eclipses Moon Monday Night Show
Heavy cloud cover hid parts of the lunar eclipse for local residents though the sky cleared for much of the three and a half hour event. Visible phases began around 7 31 p m with total eclipse at 8 45 p m and the moon reappearing after 9 40 p m, freeing just after 11 p m.
Beavers Rally To Edge Broncs 14 13 At Home
Dillon’s Beavers upset Hamilton 14 13 on Friday night at Vigilante Field. Ed Thompson scored the extra point and fullback Ed Thompson later ran in a go ahead score with a pass from Vandegrift to Rouse for the winning touchdown. Hamilton threatened in the final minutes but Ronnie Eliason’s tackle sealed the win.

Two top Hereford authorities will assist at the Dillon Hereford show and sale set for October 8-9, 1950. Emil Rezac will judge, supported by his family, and H. B. Sager of Bozeman will auction bulls and lead Hereford pedigree expertise. Fifty bulls will be shown and sold with numerous prizes. Plans for a stockmen party, horse races, and cow cutting contests are nearing completion.

Misdemeanor liquor sale case ruled for defendants
In Justice Court last Wednesday afternoon Judge George E. Baker presiding, the State vs Kenneth Downing and Richard McGuire was decided in favor of the defendants. Downing and McGuire were charged with selling liquor between 2:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday August 27 1950. County Atty W G Gilbert Jr presented for the state. Jurors were Arthur Van Sickle Walter Fagan Fred Woodside Dan Tovey Henry Mikkelsson and Cornelius Hovren.

Raymond J. Holmes a former Dillon resident died suddenly at his Los Angeles home on September 21 1935. Born December 25 1902 he grew up in Dillon attended local schools graduating in 1921 and studied at Montana State Normal College. He moved to California in 1923 and returned to Dillon for visits survived by siblings and relatives including Chester and Harold Holmes and John Sanner Jr funeral services held in Los Angeles last Saturday.

The Rotary club Monday evening featured two films. A Chevrolet sponsored film titled It All Depends explored interdependence in a complex society. The second reel, Toll Line Patrol, reviewed telephone repair crew equipment during winter maintenance. Death claims Mrs Stephens in Dillon home
Emma J. Stephens longtime Dillon resident died suddenly of a heart attack while climbing stairs on Sept 24. She worked as a dormitory cook at Western Montana College of Education for four years and was widow of Thomas F. Stephens. She leaves sons A. G. Stephens and Glen Stephens, plus six sisters and five brothers and many relatives. Funeral services will be in Whitehall, Montana.

Vigilante E C Secures $500000 Federal Loan
Telegrams from congressmen Zales N. Ecton and James E. Murray report that the Rural Electrification Administration approved a $500000 loan to Vigilante Electric Cooperative of Dillon. Funds will finance 42 miles of transmission lines 129 miles of distribution lines and construction of substations to serve 118 additional rural customers across six Montana counties. The Montana Power Co. also reported retroactive rate reductions approved in Washington for Vigilante, with contracts signed last May for new wholesale rates.

Governor Bonner proclaimed the week starting October 1 1950 as Employ the Physically Handicapped Week in Montana.
