Water rights suit targets Big Hole Basin irrigation
The Montana Power Transmission Company files a federal suit in Butte against Highland Water Ajax Live Stock and local ranchers over alleged unlawful water diversions from the Big Hole River. The company seeks an injunction and about $2000 in damages, citing ownership of 45,000 inches of water and claims that diversions threaten plant operation on the Big Hole for power supply to Butte and Anaconda.
