Mineral County Sets Pace in Mining and Lumber Growth
Mineral County prospers with a revival in silver and lead, driven by new placer mining near Superior and Sallese. Eastern syndicates invest in rich placers, bedrock cleanups rise, and lumber from western pine and larch supports Henderson and St. Regis mills. Dairy farming expands as forests aid grazing, with most county land in the Lolo forest reserve. A new courthouse costing about 40000 dollars will be ready by October 1, and the Yellowstone trail improves with lower grades over Bitter Root pass. The county seat Superior, population around 500, sits on the Yellowstone trail between Missoula and Wallace with a solid local economy.
