Beaverhead Republicans Nominate Incumbents at County Convention

Beaverhead county Republicans met in Dillon with strong approval for current officeholders. The convention nominated incumbents for most posts by acclamation, narrowed ballots for assessor coroner and surveyor, and adopted a platform praising Taft administration, Montana legislators, and a push for high school dormitories in Dillon. Delegates elected included J. Morse and H. G. Rodgers among others. Continuous deliberations followed, with committee reports and a call for orderly progress.

Bank robber Ed. Smith tracked through past crimes

Sheriff records reveal the Dillon bandit formerly known as Martin Foley and aliases has a manslaughter conviction in Wyoming from 1899 for killing a Salt Lake youth at Kemmerer. After escaping Evanston jail, he was recaptured and served about four years of a 25 year term before release for rheumatism. He later lived in Dubois Idaho.

Public road praise turns into a wild ride in Montana

Beaverhead county commissioner W C Orr and Dr Ackley drove from Dillon toward Wisdom praising Deer Lodge roads. A blinding snow storm caused Orr to miss a turn near Ralston and continue straight ahead. The misadventure ended as a lengthy detour with no injuries reported.

Courtland Egbert Dies After Long Life of Work and Family

Courtland Egbert well known resident died at his home on South Idaho street at 7 30 last Thursday. He was 75 born in New Carlyle Indiana and worked as a traveling salesman for a Boston firm before running a mercantile business in Iowa. He married Ellen De Lambert in 1872 at Niles Michigan and moved to this city four years ago. He is survived by his wife and two children Dr Morton Egbert and Mrs C W Robison. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Baptist church with Rev Colver officiating and burial at Mountain View cemetery.

Democrats Nominate Hartman For Congress At Montana Convention

At Livingston the Montana Democratic convention nominating Charles Hartman of Bozeman for congress and Peter Sanger of Butte for railroad commissioner adopted a platform praising progressive Democratic policies. The document criticizes the Payne Aldrich tariff, calls for a federal income tax, a direct primary law, and state control of natural resources with careful regulation of power and forest lands. Ranger Bill Keeps Beav erhead District Free of Blazes

Wm Barbour, recent ranch seller, now in Julieeatta Idaho, visits town and expresses enthusiasm for his new home. Will Butterfield, in charge of the Argenta district of Beaverhead National Forest, is also in town. Bill is regarded as one of the best rangers and has patrolled his district so thoroughly that no serious fires occurred.
