Ducks and grouse are abundant across Beaverhead Madison Flathead and Big Belt regions, with deer, elk, bear, sheep, and goats present in strong numbers. Experiments by Forest Service Target Ground Squirrels and Gophers
Forest Service experiments in Southern California tested methods to exterminate ground squirrels and gophers. Poisoned green barley heads proved most effective, with dried barley and various baits showing varying results, while impacts on doves, quail, and sheep were minimal or nil. Rabbits also died in some trials, and poisoned oats killed jacks and cottontails. Green alfalfa offered good results as well.
