Rail unions split over wage deals and interdivisional rules
An Emergency Board report dated June 15 1950 urged wage and rule changes to end a rail labor dispute. About 1,200,000 rail workers accepted terms. 130,000 in three operating unions resisted. Wages rose under an agreement signed at the White House with escalator cost of living adjustments. The dispute centers on interdivisional service rules and arbitration in stalemate.
