Beaverhead County Welcomes First Lutheran Church Dedicated

Beaverhead county's first Lutheran church was dedicated Sunday after years of effort. Visiting pastors led the services and attendance filled the Beaverhead and Madison counties church. The afternoon rite was led by Rev. A. M. Skindler of Spokane with other pastors from Bozeman and the region participating.

Mrs. Edith E. Quick Dies After Lingering Illness

Edith E. Quick wife of Charles Quick longtime Dillon resident dies Sunday afternoon at her South Washington street home after a lingering illness. Born in Iantha Missouri November 18 1889 she lived in Jackson for 12 years where Mr Quick ran a ranch. The family has resided in Dillon eight years with Mr Quick in the trucking business. Survived by husband Boyd son and four brothers.

Elks Dance Sets Record Crowd in Dillon

A Dillon Elks Lodge charity ball drew about 850 attendees at the city hall auditorium, likely the largest benefit event ever held there. About 425 dollars in groceries were donated for needy families via the Dillon Associated Charities, with many contributors over the 25 cent admission.

Delegates Named for Montana Education Conference

Dillon local of the Montana Education Association named delegates and alternates for the mid winter conference during a Wednesday meeting. Violet Eastman and Charles Henry chosen as delegates with Julia Anderson and Jessie Duboc as alternates. President Davis reported on Missoula district meeting while Superintendent Henry spoke on Great Falls session. Educational matters for the next Montana legislature were discussed.

Beaverhead High Moves to Class B Under New System

Beaverhead County High School automatically falls into Class B under the Montana scholastic basketball reorganization. Enrollment shifts it from Class A to district 16 competition with sixteen Class B district tournaments leading to a state tournament in Bozeman. Class A will stage a separate state tourney in Great Falls without preceding district events.

Centennial Valley men enter pleas in cattle theft case

Six Centennial valley men faced arraignment in district court before Judge Lyman H. Bennett on cattle theft charges. Three pleaded guilty with two men receiving four year prison terms and another ordered to await reform school review. Delmar Brammer pleaded not guilty yet had prior conviction and faces three to six years. Bonds set for Brammer at 2500. eight men arrested this fall. two released.

Experiments by Beaverhead Students Show High Beet Yields

Two Beaverhead County High School students Edward Bay and George Shaffner filed final reports with Supervisor Bernard Williams on beet projects. Phosphate treated plots yielded 14 136 pounds per acre versus 8 520 on untreated land. production cost was 12 96 per ton. Shaffner’s phosphate plot yielded 30 643 pounds per acre though less than an acre was planted. web worms did not harm his crop.

Mrs Harris Dies in Butte After Treatment

Mrs George Harris longtime Dillon resident died last night in Butte where she had been treated. Born in Colorado 58 years ago she came to Dillon last year and made many friends. Survived by husband Chester Hale daughter and three sons Earl M E Bennett J H Bennett sister and brother and a Los Angeles sisterinlaw. Funeral arrangements pending.

Christmas Seal Sale Opens in Beaverhead County

The 1932 Christmas seal sale will open officially tomorrow after the campaign was organized by Mrs. W. W. Hawkins as county chairman. Stamps have been distributed to school children by Superintendent Gladys Garr, with high expectations for a successful drive benefiting tuberculosis work.

Father And Son Dinner Is Success

Beaverhead county high school Future Farmers chapter hosted its annual father and son banquet in the agricultural rooms. About 55 attendees included students fathers instructors and school board members. Supervisor Bernard Williams announced Leonard Hansen as the 1932 Union Pacific scholarship winner for leadership in project work scholarship and character at Montana State College.

Tryouts for Debate Team at Normal College this Week

Debaters under Professor R. K. Albright start six minute speeches on current questions. Participation doubles prior years as a strong season is foreseen with tentative schedules facing Montana colleges. Friday after Thanksgiving becomes a holiday at the Normal for the first time recently.

Memorial Services by Local Elks in Elk Horn

Elks will hold their annual memorial services Sunday afternoon December 4 at 3 o'clock in the Odd Fellows hall. Exalted Ruler Leonard Innes announced the event inviting the public and urging all county Elks to attend. John K. Claxton of Butte, a member of lodge No. 240, will deliver the memorial address honoring seven members of the lodge.

A Thanksgiving program is presented at the training school auditorium this afternoon with parents invited. The dramatics class under Miss Melissa Minger performs a fairy play, Professor Robert Clark speaks on a Thanksgiving topic, and vocal solos are by Bonnie Eakman and Eddie Exum.
