L Cushing is declared winner amid a small ceremony with George M. man, Druggist presenting prizes and a Michigan district event noted as victor ortho line.
Lorenzo Cushing won the Orthophenid grand prize valued at 115 dollars for a ticket drawn at the door during the gift nights at the Hart We theater. George M. Gosman druggist sponsored the prize as hundreds packed the theater to watch the drawing from tickets collected across twenty Dillon merchants. Nine numbers were drawn and the tenth declared winner. continuation noted on page 8.
Beaverhead county officials announce a second one day Red Cross membership drive for next Saturday. Fred Rite, drive chairman, said the prior effort drew good participation but many Dillon residents were away in Butte, prompting a repeat campaign to boost membership in the national organization. Volunteers will mobilize across the county including Dillon and nearby schools and communities.
Mayor Cornell backs the annual Christmas Seals drive urging broad support for the TB fight. The endorsement calls the seal a gift of good health and hope for the sick and a promise of preventive measures, urging mail during the holiday season to carry the seal.
Dale Metlen of Horse Prairie opens Square Deal Grocery in Dillon this morning. The store, in the Metlen block on South Idaho street, features high quality stock, new departments to be added as needed, and a cash basis policy aimed at low prices and rapid turnover.
The Rotary Friendship Wheel, a gift from District Governor Frank Hazelbaker, is speeding through Montana on a state tour. It has already visited Dillon Anaconda Philipsburg Butte and Helena and will continue to Deer Lodge Missoula and other towns as listed in the monthly report.
James Howard eleven year old son of Mr and Mrs Ed Howard was seriously wounded when an arrow struck him in the eye yesterday. The injured eye sight was destroyed and his condition was critical for several days. Dr L G Dunlap of Anaconda treated him last Thursday and reports he is now resting easily.
Beav erhead Bad Bronc makes its debut as John and Best of Fireman String Buck lead the pack to fame at Sundance and Bannack, showcasing rough stock and rising riders in a regional show.
Beartooth miners and fans heard of Beaverhead county’s famous bucking group, the Sam Free man string, being labeled among the world’s worst wild horses after a Madison Square Garden event last month. Local riders struggled to stay mounted as Freeman string chieftains impressed few finalists and drew mixed reactions from the crowd and owner.
Five Dillon car owners were arrested after a basement fire at L. K. Adams residence. Two allegedly blocked fire trucks and three ran over the hose. They were arraigned Friday evening and fined ten dollars each. Authorities vow maximum fines for future interference.
Clara Lorenson and Crystal Wentworth of Beaverhead County High School attended the girls vocational congress in Bozeman last Thursday and Friday. Accompanied by Miss Genevieve Metlen, they returned Sunday and will report to the student body today. The convention covered vocations including teaching with expert speakers.
Beaverhead High defeats Idaho Falls 8 to 6 in the season finale. Beavers mustered fourteen downs to gain the edge as their opponent struggled offensively.
Albert W. Crowell longtime Dillon resident died this morning at the county hospital after several weeks of illness. Funeral or obituary details were not yet arranged as word from relatives was awaited.
A Marmon touring car owned by L. K. Adams burned Friday afternoon in the Adams residence basement. Firemen saved the house from the blaze after Mrs. J. H. Dickey spotted smoke and raised the alarm. The origin is likely a short in ignition wiring. no one was home at the time.
The Montana Congress of Parents and Teachers mails its Christmas issue to members statewide this week. The December Bulletin, published by local and state officers, features articles including Needs in Religious Education by Rev. Thomas W. Bennett of Missoula.
Over a hundred Dillon residents attended the Montana State Bobcats loss to Montana Grizzlies at Clark Field in Butte last Saturday. Alumni and locals traveled by car, with many also at the Gay Paree musical Thursday night in Butte. Senator and Mrs F A Hatlebaker and Henry Gleed attended the football game.
Twenty nine names are on the official list of graduates in the first division of 1928.
Commencement exercises for the autumn graduating class of 1928 will be held in the college auditorium. Payne Templeton, Flathead County High School principal and Montana Education Association president, will give the commencement address. Diplomas will be conferred by Frank Euel. invocation by Rev. Howard B. Ricketts. processional and recessional by Ralph McFadden.
The St Rose guild announces its annual bazaar and dance on Saturday December 8. The bazaar offers fancy work aprons and novelties with candy booths and a kiddie fish pond. Refreshments will be served and a Baxter Tonney six piece orchestra will play at the City Hall auditorium in the evening. Standard Lumber & Coal donates a ton of coal to be given away with a dance ticket.
