Annual Report Planned At Soil Conservation Meet
Three Beaverhead Soil Conservation District supervisors met on Friday afternoon November 1 with Work unit conservationist Larry Osburnson of Butte to discuss the upcoming annual report and district progress. Funeral Rites For Father Lechner Held At St Rose Church
Funeral services for the Rev Francis X Lechner were held at St Rose Catholic church with solemn rites on Monday. A long cortege carried his remains to Mountain View cemetery for graveside services. Lechner, 81, died at his home 136 S Pacific street last Thursday morning after years of declining health. He served as pastor of St Rose Church from 1922 to 1944 and remained in Dillon. He was born December 28 1875 in Iphofen Bavaria Germany and studied in France and at Catholic University Washington DC, where he was in the first graduating class in 1899.

The Advance Western committee of the Dillon Chamber of Commerce resumed activities to promote Western Montana College of Education at a luncheon at Lee's Steak House. WMCE President Dr. James Short chaired as Dr. Robert English reviewed last year’s efforts. A five bulletin mail campaign reached 6,000 high school seniors statewide, with fundraising aiding the program and Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce support noted. Attendees included Dr. J. R. Cumming and George Brown.

Beaverhead Post and the Legion Auxiliary plan a joint Albert Streb Day party at the Legion clubhouse at 7 30 Thursday November 21 in honor of Mr Streb. The event follows a Veterans Day open house noting Streb's months of refurbishing work and a paint project donated by him. Mr and Mrs Streb, longtime post members and WWII veterans, moved to Dillon after retiring from a Melrose ranch. The group also sponsored a local radio program honoring veterans of all wars.

Candidates For ASC Election Are Announced
Nominees for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation community committee for 1958 have been chosen by local election boards. Beaverhead county ASC office manager G. E. Weston says ballots will list candidates and petition nominees by November 15, with ballots mailed around November 22. The five-member Beaverhead county committee includes a chairman, vice chair, regular member and two alternates, and the county committee forms automatically from the local list.

Achievement Day Awards Made At 4-H Meeting Here
Beaverhead County 4-H Achievement Day held November 9 at Beaverhead County High School. Holger Carlson received a certificate and gold pin for tenth year as a 4-H club leader. Farm Bureau awards went to Dillon Hi-Lighters and Riverside Rustlers earned a second place $5 check. Mary Garrison won the Traveling Showmanship Trophy for the third time. Montana Power Company trophies went to Billie Ann McFadden first in Dress Revue and Mary Garrison second. Junior Showmanship trophies to Bill Slanger and Veronica Bolick. Special county awards recognized outstanding achievement in various fields for the Big Hole Cowboys, Big Hole Rangers, and other groups.
