Beaverhead County Near Record in Election Results
Beaverhead County came close to a record turnout with 3,472 of 4,096 eligible voters casting ballots, just shy of 85 percent. Rodgers led Jefferson County results by 139 votes to win district judge, with Giles, Best, and Schulz close in the three-way tally. Incumbents Stahl and Opp were reelected justice of the peace. Temperatures Hit Ten Below As Cold Snap Hits Dillon
Early morning temperatures drop to ten below zero on Monday and Tuesday. Frost dates are noted with a first killing frost on November 3 and a light frost on September 30. October 1940 and October 1939 share the same mean temperature of 56 degrees. An inch of snow fell Sunday night with low moisture content.

Farmers Union Holds Meeting In Beaverhead County
The Beaverhead county Farmers Union met Sunday November 10 after a noon dinner at Lavon hall. Mack Poole and Mrs Thelma Kalsta reported on the state convention while Genevieve Buhrer led a discussion on Teaching Our Rural Youth. Frank Buyan presided with guests Bernard Williams and Miss Gladys Tofte. Officers elected were Frank Buyan president John Albers vice president and Genevieve Buhrer secretary treasurer.

Peterson and Westergard in Accident Near Redrock
Vic Westergard received cuts and bruises after the car driven by Hermann Peterson crashed into a trailer and overturned near Redrock. The pair had been returning from a goose hunt in Centennial valley and passed a southbound car to cut in front of the trailer. The trailer’s contents were scattered. the Peterson car lay wrecked in water with guns reportedly missing. The Idaho Falls traveler carrying household goods was en route to Anaconda. Peterson suffered minor injuries.

Dillon man named Beaverhead County's first conscriptee
Beaverhead county filled two draft slots for the November 18 draft by lot. Thomas F. Savage of Dillon won the first conscription, with George F. Knaub second, Terry P. Conklin third, and James S. Taylor of Lima fourth. Conklin and Taylor lead the second draft list expected around December 1. Fifty questionnaires were mailed last Thursday.

Wisdom Boy Receives National FFA Honor
George Stewart of Wisdom, son of Mr and Mrs Walter Stewart, named American Farmer of 1940 by the Future Farmers of America at the Kansas City convention. He is a Montana State College freshman attending with eight other Montana youths and state supervisor A W Johnson. Stewart is Dillon native, Beaverhead County High School graduate, and held multiple leadership roles including high school student body president and state FFA president.
