Beaverd head River Gold Robbery of 1873 in Sheep Creek Country
In 1873 near Sheep Creek station in Montana a gang plotted to steal $12,000 in gold from a stage treasure box. The stocktender and two settlers devised the scheme and hid the loot in the Beaverhead river, prompting a manhunt led by X Biedler. After years, several conspirators were caught and given ten years hard labor, ending with their return to the Deer Lodge valley.
