Phillip Grotevant known as Jerry a Beaverhead County pioneer died at the county poor farm after nine years as a paralytic inmate He discovered the Trapper mine at Lion City in 1873 and once owned several valuable claims Later he ran a ranch near Melrose and a Glendale saloon Funeral services were held in Dillon Interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery

Herb Anderson Injured Falling From Wagon
Herb Anderson of Rhodes & Anderson proprietors of the Centennial saloon of Dillon was brought to Dillon early Monday after a wagon accident Saturday. While driving a heavy wagon loaded with oars from Monida to his Centennial valley ranch, the load shifted on a steep incline, he was thrown between the wagon box and front wheel, several ribs were crushed and internal injuries feared. He is under Dr. Poindexter care at George Rhodes residence.

Two Big Ranch Deals in Beaverhead County
In Montana this month R E Foster of the Montana Livestock Commission Co. arranged the sale of J L Vannoy’s Melrose ranch to Kaiser and Ballard for 90000. The package includes 7200 sheep 640 acres of deeded land leased land water rights horses and personal property. Kaiser and Ballard are prominent Ogden businessmen with Ballard moving to manage the ranch. Also John Inabnit bought out partner Chris Deautschman in a Big Hole basin cattle and hay ranch for 30000 and will continue to run the property. Deautschman plans a California visit and possible return to Beaverhead county.

Normal College Track Meet Next Friday at Three
The annual track and field meet of the Normal training school is set for next Friday afternoon at the Normal college track. Dr Grant E Finch arranged the program which includes all events. Many boys from grammar and intermediate grades are entered and practice. Entries are divided into four classes by grade. trophies await those winning multiple events over two to four years and related to the 1916 meet.

Memorial Day Observances In Dillon
Memorial Day will be observed in Dillon with G A R participation at Baptist church services next Sunday morning and evening led by Dr Horace W Tilden. On Monday the city flag staff is hoisted and later lowered to half mast, with G A R members decorating graves Tuesday afternoon. Dedication of a 10 by 20 foot flag banner is planned for June 14. The G A R had petitioned for a steel flag staff and a large American flag, which the council approved.

Local resident Lee Symons dies after long illness at county farm
Lee Symons known as Frenchy died last Sunday night at the county poor farm from dropsy after a lengthy illness. He was 70 years old and had spent many years as a county farm inmate. The remains were interred Monday morning in Mountain View cemetery.

The Diamond O outfit completed a major Dillon deal paying Ed Lloyd over 100000 for 4300 acres deeded and 800 leased land plus 600 cattle and 150 horses. The purchase includes ranch buildings and equipment. the property lies with good water rights and abundant hay. Diamond O now controls about 10500 acres in Grasshopper.

Former harness maker returns to Dillon as partner
W. H. Richardson, former owner of the harness and saddle shop on North Montana street, has bought into the business in Dillon as a partner of Harry Ettinger. Richardson, who sold to Ettinger and lived in Dallas, Texas, will be joined by his family in about a month.

Woman in Bannack Kills Husband with Axe After Quarrel
A murder occurred in Bannack last night as a woman named Moore killed her husband by crushing his skull with an axe. The couple, strangers to Bannack, had quarreled for about a week. Sheriff Erwin and County Attorney Stevenson left for Bannack as lines were down and roads blocked by a storm. they expect to bring Mrs. Moore to Dillon once they arrive.

Man Is Accidentally Shot At Apex Ranch
Marian Gasper, a Beaverhead Ranch employee at Apex, was accidentally shot last Friday afternoon when another ranch hand discharged a shotgun. The pellet wound hit Gasper in the back of the thigh and leg. He was brought to Dillon and treated at Curtis hospital by Dr. Thorkelson.

Man Dies After Hanging Between Train Cars
A freight crew found John McGill dead yesterday morning after he reportedly attempted to board a train at Lima and was torn between two cars. He bled to death and an inquest by the county coroner was to be held today. He was about 25, five feet eight, with brown hair and tattooed arms and was believed en route to Butte to join a carnival company.

Fifteen students seven boys and eight girls will receive diplomas from Beaverhead County High School in Dillon. Frank Donahue is president Bruce Christman vice president Mae Smith treasurer and H B Soulen class professor. Commencement events include a May 26 Junior Prom a May 31 class day and June 2 commencement with baccalaureate at the Presbyterian church and an alumni reunion on June 1.
