F E Godwin of the Billings Oil company says a Cottonwood oil excitement is near, with a plan to drill to 3500 feet if needed. The district, adjacent to Salt Creek fields in Wyoming, shows gas and surface oil indicators and varios wells. Local investors organized the company, with exploration soon to begin and nearby firms tapping similar prospects. Man Receives 25 Year Sentence for Assault Case
Joseph Stroud was found guilty of criminal assault involving a 12 year old Armstead girl. Judge W A Clark gave a 25 year term at Deer Lodge state penitentiary. Stroud confessed en route to the prison, and the mother and father face possible charges as accomplices. The child will be moved to Helena's House of the Good Shepherd.

The Girls' Friendly Club held its first annual reception at the Guild Hall in Dillon on a Saturday evening from eight to eleven. The hall featured yellow and white decor and potted plants. organizers included Mrs. William S. Watson and several Misses. Receivers were Mrs. Watson and the young women Edith Hatch Olga Anderegg Ruth Conway Mary Hester Phillips Zetta Gilbert. The program had violin and vocal solos, folk dances led by Mrs. Edmund J Callaway, and numbers by the Normal College Orchestra. Refreshments in yellow and white with white carnations and asparagus fern followed, served at the main table by Mrs. Edmund J Callaway and Miss Annabelle Long, and at the coffee urn by Mrs. William C. Orr.

Bully for Beaverhead county leads Montana in Panama-Pacific drive
The Western News of Libby Montana reports Beaverhead county first to respond to Governor Stewart's appeal for funds for the Panama-Pacific exposition in San Francisco 1913.
