Eighteen Cars of Cattle Shipped From Beaverhead County
Louis Stahl returned to Dillon from Omaha with Arch ie Main Ernest Orr and Dan Sullivan after directing 18 carloads of cattle from Poindexter Orr Dick Gallagher and Thomas Flynn. The shipment was among the county’s largest in years and cattle brought good prices. Stahl spent four days in Mountain Home Idaho visiting his son Paul in fruit growing. He praised Beaverhead county while recalling extreme weather in Omaha including a heat wave a cyclone and a severe cold snap.

Narrow Escape in Big Hole Near Melrose
Billy Neal of Butte narrowly escaped drowning when his boat capsized in a rapid Big Hole river stretch near Melrose. His foot tangled in the painter, ten minutes in icy water ended when he cut the rope with a knife and swam to shore. A street car conductor, Neal owns a ranch near Melrose and was taken to his ranch after witnesses could not assist.

Police Court Notes: Two men jailed five days for drinking stumble
Judge Phillips sentences B. F. McCorkely and Pow Nimsick to five days in the county jail after they were found sleeping on a sidewalk near the high school. Sentence suspended if they clean the city jail and receive a floater. Three men were tried last Monday with Joe Kelley fined five dollars for fighting and Dick Anderson fined five for drunkenness.

Local Man Held on Statutory Offense Charge
J. J. McDonald, a one year Big Hole basin resident, was arrested Friday and brought to Dillon for a justice court trial before Justice Kenison. Charged with a statutory offense against two minor children, he pleaded not guilty with attorney H. B. Duff. Bonds set at 6000 dollars. preliminary trial scheduled for May 28.

First Dillon Baseball Game of 1914 Delivers Mixed Results
A Dillon team hosted an exhibition with Butte ball players on Sunday. Klinger the Idaho pitcher struck out 12 in eight innings as Dillon won 20 to 1. Next Sunday they travel to Virginia City to face the Vigilantes with more local games planned.

Photographer Arrested for Horse Stealing in Idaho
A city photographer, who operated here briefly last week, was arrested in Roberts Idaho by Sheriff Irwin. Accused by A L Anderson of stealing a driving horse and buggy hired from a livery stable the man says he left the horse in Armstead and instructed a boy to return and reclaim it. The prisoner was brought back by Irwin and will be given a hearing in the justice court soon.

Conflict Leaves Rancher Bruised After Street Altercation
Thomas Flynn a prominent rancher south of Dillon was struck by former employee Joe Kelly on Montana street in front of the First National bank. Flynn suffered a severe head cut and facial bruising as a crowd watched. Kelly fled the scene and remains at large as police investigate.

Drowns in Irrigating Ditch at Vineyard Ranch
John W. Marth a 49 year old farm laborer drowned in an irrigating ditch at the Vineyard ranch near Wise river last Sunday morning. He had suffered lengthy illness from alcohol debauch and returned Friday night from Dewey with a companion who brought a pint of whisky.

Pioneer Matron of Lima Dies
Mrs. James Philips longtime Lima resident dies at home after a pneumonia and related illness. Born Elizabeth Madealf in Wales April 10 1847 she emigrated to America in 1854 and married James Philips in Salt Lake City 1864. Survived by her husband three daughters and eight grandchildren. Funeral to be held in Lima next Sunday.

Wisdom Child Drowns in Local Well
Grace Hedge of Wisdom reports her three year old son Harry drowned in a ten foot well. Neighbors spotted the body after a search when a light reflected on the water. the cover had been left off after last use. An inquest was not deemed necessary. Funeral held in Wisdom on Sunday.

Dillon Horse Sale Promises 500 Head Tomorrow
George Ditty manager of the Dillon Horse Sale company returns from Dell with a car load of horses to be shipped to Dillon for the sale starting tomorrow. Over 500 head of home raised stock will be sold over two days with buyers from western markets attending. A number of horses are being hauled in from outside points signaling Dillon's growing status in horse markets. A. Z. Mark of Billings, an auctioneer noted for his skill, will again preside at the hammer.

Veterinary Board Exam Held In Butte For Applicants
Dr W C Orr of this city a state board member spent Monday in Butte where exam was conducted for registered veterinary surgeons. The semi annual event, arranged by state officials and board members, was moved from Helena to Butte to save a day. Five or six applicants from across the state underwent thorough examinations in their chosen profession.
