Montana employment rising with nonfarm gains in 1949
Montana's unemployment report shows nonfarm payrolls up about 2,500 from previous peaks, with records likely broken for the first half of 1949. A dry year could threaten later gains, while farm income falls may offset by rising nonfarm wages. state funds rise as bond issues float and the general fund doubles. A school equalization law aims to reduce taxes and boost school funding, and Montana mandates one year of college work for the first emergency teaching certificate, with exemptions for some graduates and summer school attendance.
