Tense Spokane incident ended without bloodshed as calm leaders and bystanders restrained violence. Police report credit given to disciplined crowd control and prudent de escalation. No arrests noted as authorities work to restore order and investigate triggers.
In Spokane two thousand rallied at the Northern Pacific depot as United States marshals moved 100 plus industrials from line arrests into boxcars. Deputies, led by Marshals Drake and Cantwell, blocked exits, sent a match to a tense standoff, and ordered habeas corpus for the detainees after a dramatic scene with crowds demanding food and release.
May Meyer a rich dry goods merchant from Selma Alabama leaped from a Graham apartment house window on Madison Avenue New York at 9 pm while his nurse was away.
