Senator Frank A Hazelbaker and W D Ross named as Republican delegates to the state convention in Helena. M Poindexter and J P Loss named by Democrats. Republicans report confidence and both party meetings well attended.
Republicans and Democrats in Dillon held county conventions to pick delegates for state meetings and discuss campaign prospects. Hazelbaker and Ross were chosen as Republican delegates. Poindexter and Loss of Wisdom were chosen as Democratic delegates urging support for Alfred E. Smith. Harmony and confidence in Beaverhead County were reported.
City council adopts Clean Up Dillon slogan and starts a one week drive to remove rubbish. City trucks will haul debris from alleys Thursday through Saturday, free of charge, with property owners clearing yards and securing accessible rubbish for removal. The effort aims to cut fire hazards and beautify the town for healthier, more attractive living.
Drummey School wins track meet as homes open to guests for entertainment events.
Dillon hosted the fourth annual Beaverhead county grade school meet drawing 130 pupils. Lloyd English led Dillon to victory with high points, Argen ta’s Joe Nolan claimed four firsts and a second for third place, and high point honors were shared after a day of records and close races. May fete plans on the Normal College campus promise a big pageant as two to three thousand locals are expected to attend.
May 15 marks the tenth anniversary of regular air mail service. Postmaster General Harry H. New has designated the week as ATR Mail Week, with observances continuing as noted on page 8.
Dillon students depart after noon for Missoula to represent the Beavers in the state inter scholastic meet Thursday and Friday. Continued on page 8.
Mrs. Maria Poiter Barrett, esteemed Beaverhead County pioneer matron and wife of Thomas F. Barrett, died at her home Sunday night after several months of illness. The services were held at St Rose Church this morning and burial followed in Mountain View.
The Dillon city council met to begin the new year with two new members John Orr and George Gosman taking seats. Forrest Bayerd was unanimously confirmed as city engineer and a full slate of committees appointed including Water and Sewer and Street and Alley.
The fishing season starts Monday May 21 with many anglers planning a holiday celebration. All streams in Beaverhead County will be open except two sections the Big Hole and Red Rock Rivers, closed within 800 feet below the Divide and Lima daitan.
Mrs. J H Gilbert Montana Congress of Parents and Teachers will keynote three district conventions this week and next with talks on The Responsibility of the Home in Relation to the Seven fold Program of Home and School National representatives will attend in Billings Great Falls and Missoula including Mrs C V Aspinwall and Mrs Jennie R Nichols Also featured are prominent Montana educators presenting at each meeting
A weekend attic fire at Barrett Hospital sparked by roof sparks threatened the building. Firefighters controlled the blaze as two sections sustained damage and residents were briefly at risk.
