Montana political scene and power plans in 1952 race
In Helena, Mansfield and Bonner face possible Democratic opposition for the 1952 Senate nomination while Justice Bottomly may enter the race. Plans swirl around Adair and Lieut. Gov. Cannon as campaigns fever up. Montana power debate shows private and public hydro capacity rising with Cabinet Gorge and Hungry Horse projects. Weather trends hint at cooler, wetter cycles affecting agriculture and livestock, with record crop value anticipated if favorable conditions hold. Montana prepares for party conventions in May to elect delegates and presidential electors, with Eisenhower supporters active in eastern districts.
