Post War Highway Program Launched Soon in Montana

Montana draws up a multi million dollar postwar road plan to build and repair 1180 miles. The state highway commission plans to launch the program by selling 1.5 million in bonds to retire 3 million in debentures and back 12 million in new bonds with federal aid. The move would repeal the 5 cent gas tax and replace it with a new levy to repay the bonds. The program faces bid delays due to contractor interest and material shortages, with a 35 percent bid hike rule limiting bids from 1940 cost levels.
