Death of the last buffalo on open range in Montana

A 1888 pursuit near Rock and Red Lodge creeks ends when John Tolman shoots the last free buffalo after it is lassoed and corralled on Elbow creek. George Teeples of Raymond Wyoming reports the tale, with Tolman later keeping the head in Red Lodge.

Robert McDowell Laid to Rest in Mountain View Cemetery

The remains of Robert McDowell were interred in Mountain View cemetery last Friday afternoon. Funeral services were held from the Masonic hall at 2:30 under the auspices of Dillon lodge No. 238 A F and A M which paid its last tribute. Worshipful Master L K Adams led the impressive masonic rites with Rev W S Watson reading prayers. Pallbearers were Harry Schuler W Fr Chapman Bert Dunbar George Melton T E Gilbert and R J Bidstrup.

Dan Grant Sells Out Buffet Saloon

Roy Jackson bought the Buffet saloon from Dan Grant last Saturday and has taken possession. Jackson, linked to saloon work for three years, previously ran the Mill Point road house rented from George Gray. He and his family moved to Dillon recently and reside on South Pacific Street. Grant plans to spend the summer developing mining property in the Elkhorn district.

Hurt While Fixing Steam Plow Near Dillon

Ervie Phillips a well known rancher west of Dillon sustained facial burns from molten babbit while repairing a steam plow. Eyeballs were seared but doctors believe eyesight may be saved. Phillips has a history of injuries from engine work.

Glendale Woman Dies After Sun Stroke and Moves

Mrs J C Quinn a Glendale native died at Warm Springs after weeks of illness. Funeral held in Melrose with burial in Glendale cemetery. She was 48 born to Mr and Mrs Joseph Hutchins and married J C Quinn in Dillon eight years ago. the couple lived in Canada Arizona and Dillon before moving to Warm Springs Montana. Survived by husband two sisters Mrs Noah Siria and Mrs C Beall and a brother Henry.

Mexican charged in Dell Inst fall faces 30 day sentence

Joe Guerrero, a Mexican national, was brought before a Federal court in Great Falls last week on four counts for forging a signature on a 4A money order belonging to a fellow countryman in Dell Inst fall. He was indicted on four counts, found guilty on two, and sentenced to thirty days of penal servitude.

Dillon schedules a municipal election in two weeks. The city population of 1885 falls under the 2000 threshold for the new primary law. Registration closed March 6 shows 702 voters across three wards, with Ward 2 up to 278 and Ward 1 down two. Three aldermen will be elected. no other offices are vacant.

County School Notes Urge Rural Funds For Fair Building

Justice Court arraigns trio on vagrancy charges
