Emmer, though a form of wheat with a hull, provides strong feeding value for livestock and can outperform wheat and oats in certain conditions.

The North Portland cattle market shows slow, draggy demand with buyers unwilling to pay 10 to 15 cents less than Monday. Cows and heifers bring 4.50 to 7.00, steers 6.85 to 7.75, hogs rise 15 cents with top 8.35, sheep prices ease 15 to 25 cents, calves 5.50 to 9.00, and various weights listed for bulls and yearlings. Burke Commission Co. notes recent Monday sales were prior packer purchases, not market improvement.
