Brief History of the Flathead Reservation Land Opening
Spokane June 21 Four hundred fifty thousand of the 1 425 000 acres in the Flathead Indian reservation will offer homes for 100 000 people after a government drawn entry at Couer d Alene Idaho starting July 9. Registrations open July 15 to August 5 at Kalispell or Missoula Montana. The tract includes Flathead Lake and rich fruit and grain lands with irrigation plans costing 250 000. Rail lines and roads aim to serve the area. The treaty creating the reservation was signed July 14 1855 and ratified March 8 1859.
