Dillon preps a nationwide style Fourth with a full program on Montana street featuring parades gun salute daybreak races and a grand ball. Committees promise top accommodations and a record crowd while skipping only the public fireworks display.
William Roman, recently hired at Medicine Lodge, was jailed by Undersheriff George W. Dart on charges of stealing wool from multiple ranches and selling it in Dillon. A bag found with Elza Smith’s brand tied the case, with two more bags unclaimed and a preliminary arraignment set for next Saturday.
Occident Lodge No. 8 Knights of Pythias elected officers for the new term at a Saturday meeting in the Odd Fellows hall. James Shearer was named Master of Work and John Banks Chancellor Commander, with H B Selva Vice Commander Eph Stoller Prelate A C Gruwell Master of Exchequer C W Scott Master of Finance Chas Hirachman Keeper of Records A A Cutforth Master at Arms George Main Inner Guard and Louis Stahl Outer Guard. Nearby ranchmen Jorgen and Hans Jorgenson Junie Jackson and A Gravelle were in town buying supplies.
The annual Odd Fellows picnic of Butte lodges may be hosted at Selway Park near Dillon this year. A Butte delegation visited Dillon to assess park and access, and if arrangements with the Short Line railroad succeed, Dillon will host the event expected to draw 1500 to 2000 attendees on Sunday July 16.
Judge Lew L. Callaway issued findings and filed decrees in three water rights cases involving Beaverhead river and Blacktail creek. The decisions assign prior rights, tributary status, and specific conveyances of inches and cubic feet per second to Poindexter Orr L S Co, Flynn, Whitaker, and others, with details on Elk Creek, Cox Pyle ditch, and various ditches and preexisting decrees.
The Dillon weather station reports this year’s total precipitation reaching 15.8 inches by mid year with June at 3.4 inches, already beating last year’s totals and nearing the all time annual high of 19.79 inches set in 1891.
A large audience attended the School of Maeaic concert and class play at the Dillon Normal College. Rev. E. Stanton Hodgin delivered the commencement address as Prof. and Mrs. Luce led a successful program with a full orchestra and eighty chorus members. The class staged a comic operetta A Dress Rehearsal and the junior class parodied popular songs during intermission.
