Dancing Pavilion Opens at Dillmont Park Fourth of July

Dillmont park opens to the public on July Fourth with a big picnic celebration at the new resort on Beaverhead river. The Baxter-Tonney Orchestra will provide music for continuous dancing from 2 to 12, and the 70 by 70 foot pavilion features a spacious veranda and hardwood floor, supervised by a manager.

WiMLD-Succeeds Bailey as Cashier at NNW Bank

Pi Bailey resigned as cashier of the Secur State bank opened at this place and Marshall Mield of Osseo Wisconsin succeeded him. Bebdy, one of the organizers, is forced to resign. Field arrived last week and will take up his new post in Dillon on July 1.

Dementia Case Ties Dillon Man To Joan Of Arc Delusion

George McFadden was seized by authorities Monday and placed in custody to await a sanity commission. He suffers dementia and is accused by residents near Dillon River of frightening families while riding a white horse and shouting. He believed he was Joan of Arc at times and later thought he owned a large herd to round up.

Dillon Attorney Fined for Contempt of Court

Judge Joseph C. Smith fined Attorney R A Stephenson $50 for contempt connected to the Romain custody case. The dispute, part of divorced proceedings involving Ed and Mrs. Romain, involved alleged disobedience to a court order. Mrs. Romain also faced a $50 fine, which was remitted on her case.

Dillon Women to Organize Red Cross Branch

A Saturday meeting at the city hall rest room aims to organize a Dillon Montana patriotic association of women and girls to support the American Red Cross. Mrs. Boyle of Butte will outline plans and Helen Curtis will train members to sew bandages and other items for soldiers. Regular meetings are planned with Dillon women taking leadership in the effort.

Colored denizens get ninety days in jail

Local raid in the north end led to the arrest of John Reed and Maggie Reed on a disorderly house charge. They pleaded in justice court and each received ninety days in county jail. An out of town floater was issued as well. The sheriff pledges strict enforcement of this law.

A terse dispatch reports A. B. Atwater leading a roundup of slackers in Beaverhead as part of federal enforcement efforts. The message notes ongoing activity near Helena and control of the operation by federal authorities.

A federal officer, Mr. Atwater, spends the week watching young men who did not register for selective conscription. Several have been arrested and more cases are under investigation with possible federal prosecutions ahead.

Beaverhead DAR Adopts War Support Agenda and Renames Chapter

The Beaverhead Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution voted to donate 20 to the Red Cross and offer services to the local Red Cross chapter and Beaverhead county council of defense. Members endorsed simplified dress and summer tea and wafers at meetings. The chapter will be known as Beaverhead Chapter DAR. The Normal "Go" will be held next Saturday at Beaverhead Rock near Barratts station.

Bearden County Wool Boom Drives Beaverhead Warehouse Overload

Shearing in Beaverhead county is more than half finished with heavy wool inflows from Madison county and Lemhi county Idaho. The northern wool warehouse is crowded with bags. platforms hold unhandled wool as Governor B F White oversees weighing and W A Lovell directs warehousemen. Wool is shipped via the Short Line toward eastern markets, chiefly Boston, with eight cars sent this week.

New Dorm for Normal College Approved by State Board

State Board of Education met in Helena on June 16 and 26 2026 approves contracts and plans for a dormitory at the State Normal College and additions at Montana institutions. The board orders study of feasibility for Northern Montana Agricultural and Manual Training School and sets regulations to govern expert services by university staff.
