Wool Prices Rise in Beaverhead for Large County Clip

Beaverhead county sheepmen report strong wool prices this season with 27 to 32 cents paid by eastern and local buyers. Nearly a million pounds have been sold or contracted, with daily receipts of 160 000 to 200 000 pounds at the First National warehouse. Most sales go to eastern markets, plus a Utah buyer for a few clips.

Frank Eliel, Dillon pioneer, dies after long illness

Frank Eliel prominent Dillon business man died at his home on South Washington street after months of illness. He helped found the community store 66 years ago and held public offices including state representative for Beaverhead county five terms and later seats on the state trade commission and board of education. Funeral at 2:30 pm at the Masonic hall with interment in Mountain View cemetery, city businesses to close for the hour.

Dillon Nine Triumphs Over Butte Highlanders In Sunday Victory

Dillon's baseball team defeated the Butte Highlanders 12 to 3 at the fairgrounds. Pitcher Vandegrift limited hits to six and fanned 18 as Dillon totaled 11 hits. Six runs in the sixth inning broke the game open. Melrose looms Sunday, with More games ahead including a possible Northwest Tournament entry in Deer Lodge in July. A benefit dance at Dillmont Park Saturday funds the trip. The club organized at a recent meeting with Floyd Davis manager and Johnny Johnston secretary. Dillon Man Named Head State Merchants Group

Dillon resident Lambert Eliel was elected president of the Associated Merchants of Montana at the state convention in Billings. Eugene W. Bond, also from Dillon, became treasurer as officers and directors from several towns were named to lead the organization.

Beaverhead Ranchers Begin Haying Season Across County

Beaverhead county ranchers start haying with mowers at work in the valley. Additional operations will move to higher areas and Big Hole basin in early July as heavy yields expected from ample spring moisture. Alfalfa tonnage projected to be the busiest in years and wool shipments continue to arrive at the First National warehouse.

Power rates reduced in Dillon after hearing at court house

A local hearing at the courthouse led to material reductions in power and light rates for Dillon. Effective with the July statements, Montana Power Company rates charged in Butte will be used as the basis for local Dillon rates for 90 days.

Monida Child Killed in Car Accident

Dorothy Nye three year old daughter of Mr and Mrs James Nye of Monida was killed Saturday morning when a car driven by her mother plunged over an embankment on Horse Prairie. The child was believed thrown against the windshield. skull fractured. The mother and two boys were uninjured. Funeral Monday at Brundage chapel with Reverend Schmidt officiating. Interment Mountain View cemetery. She is survived by her parents grandparents and siblings.

England Focused Rotary Talk by Twin Bridges Official

George H. Davey, superintendent of the state orphans home at Twin Bridges, spoke at the Dillon Rotary Club on a trip to England. He described English youth staying in England, tensions with France, jealousy toward Italy amid the Ethiopian war, and a perceived recovery with new houses and less drunkenness. He noted Rotary visits in Plymouth, Hereford, London, Tottenham, Westham, and Shoreditch. Dr Henry Newman of New York City to speak next.

State entomology board protests child labor in rodent work

At a Helena meeting the state board of entomology led by Dr. W. F. Cogswell Dr. J. W. Butler and A. L. Strain passed a resolution condemning the use of children in rodent eradication campaigns. They cited bubonic plague in humans and sylvatic plague in Beaverhead and Madison counties and warned handling dead rodents risks flea transmission to people.

Building Accepted by Government in Dillon Post Office

Dillon's new federal building has been accepted by the government after a final inspection by Pop Grove of Washington Co C Norman Coler and F C Culberteen of the Kansas City district. Inspectors praised brick work and bond, and noted the project is perfect in detail from base to top. Big Hole Rodeo Promises Slick Tricks This Weekend

Beaverhead county hosts its first rodeo of the season Sunday in Jackson under Bob Rooker, famed trick roper. The program features professional bronc riding, steer roping, calf roping, steer dogging, and other Wild West events with riders from Montana and Idaho. The event includes dances in Wisdom and Jackson, and anglers anticipate a long weekend as low river water boosts fishing in the Big Hole basin.

33 Autocides in State During the First 5 Months

The state reports 33 highway deaths in the first five months, up from 31 a year earlier. Deputy Registrar L. L. Benepe notes five autocides occurred last month in Great Falls Chouteau Missoula Yellowstone and Toole counties. March saw ten deaths, while April had four.
