Mrs. J A Best, a former Dillon resident, died suddenly at Redondo Beach while returning from a picnic. She collapsed after hurrying to catch a bus and died at a hospital that same day June 15. She is buried beside her late husband J A Best who died two years ago.
A six mill special levy proposal will be voted on by freeholders of school district No. 10 on Saturday June 27 to retire outstanding registered warrants of about $9,000 at six percent interest. Trustees have cut operating expenses by twenty five percent in five years amid a sharp district income decline from lower property valuations and reduced state aid.
Mrs. Ray J. Stanfield a longtime Beaverhead County resident and wife of Ray J Stanfield died at her home this morning after a long illness. Born in Alberta Missouri 34 years ago she moved to the county with her parents in 1899 as a child.
Montana State Superintendent Elizabeth Ireland will address the Montana State Normal College on Friday morning. Public invited. Upcoming speakers include Chancellor M. A. Brannon on July 14 and Dr. Frank Ernest Hill on July 13, with a July 16 all day talking-picture program featuring reels and addresses by experts. Ivy O. Hendricks of the American Red Cross speaks June 28. The season closes with Dr. Alfred L. Hall’s lecture.
Barney and Grace O'Keefe arrive from Salt Lake City to visit their aunt Mrs. J W Rees at her home.
RS. BLANCHE FAUST wife of A. J. Faust prominent East bench rancher died Monday afternoon at her ranch after a long illness. She had been seriously ill for months and death was expected. Funeral arrangements set for 3 o'clock.
Destructive pine beetle campaign in Ruby and Blacktail forest sections ends after treating 7,000 trees across about 100000 acres. Three crews returned last week led by Junior Forester Neil Fullerton of Newport and Roswell Leavitt, son of Congressman Scott Leavitt, along with Ranger J H Watson.
Adelaide Birrer of Gosman school led eighth grade graduates from rural county schools with 91.7 average. Ruth Irion of Armstead was second with 91.3 and Mabel Jones of Centennial valley third at 87.6. Forty seventh graders also passed state geography and physiology exams.
The Dillon Gun Club stages a regular fortnightly shoot at the fair grounds tonight starting at six. Members of the Sheridan club plan to drive over to compete, officials say. The Dillon club holds shoots on the second and fourth Wednesdays each month for the rest of the summer.

Attorney General L A Foot ruled there is no statute to prevent wholesale butter shortweight sold to retail stores. State law requires retail containers to state a pound equals 16 ounces. If butter is sold at retail under a pound it is punishable, but the opinion found no enforcement against wholesalers.
American flyers Wiley Post and Harold Gatty completed the Berlin leg in 24 hours from Harbor Grace Newfound land. They landed at the main Berlin airport to enthusiastic crowds and it marked the first successful flight from the American continent to Berlin and the second leg of a proposed round the world attempt aiming for a new record.
RS Abe Savocol a 60 year old Ireland born resident of Beaverhead County for 42 years died at home in Dillon after years of illness. She came to Montana in 1889 and married to a local businessman. Survived by husband sister Mrs Richard Gallagher of Santa Monica Sims and brother Jack OBrien.
Dillon Rotary will meet Monday evenings in the Andrus hotel dining room instead of noon for the rest of the summer. Rev. Father F. X. Lechner gave a talk on International Relations in Europe. Frank HeBel presided. guests included Fred Woodside Tom Moran and William Thomas.
Mrs. Frank Felt and her granddaughter Miss Carolyn Curd arrived from Portland at the start of the week and depart for their summer home at Wikhorn Springs. Mrs. Mills came from Pasadena and will spend the summer at Wichorn Springs.
Annah Hinnaland of Brockway and Rita Bohlg of Opheim lead the spring quarter honor roll at Montana State Normal College announced today with Dillon girl Virginia Randolph in second place. The list includes 44 students with six Beaverhead county pupils. high performers earned three grade points per credit and Randolph posted 2.937 points per credit.

Joseph Carder a sheepherder for the Gleed Brothers near Lima died in Lima Sunday afternoon at 64. His body was moved to Dillon by H M Brundage and shipped Monday to Salt Lake City for funeral and interment. Relatives in Salt Lake City survive him.
Anna Grannis widow of L R Grannis died last Sunday at her daughter Mrs War ren Hughes home in Wise River after long illness. The Grannis family moved west in 1864 and Montana in 1883, with L R Grannis a pioneer in Nevada then Montana. Surviving are two daughters Mrs W L Hughes and Mrs Guy Carter both of Wise River, two sons George of Butte and L R of California, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Eckhoff spent several days last week in Dillon visiting Mr. and Mrs. 8 D Hirschman on their way from Bozeman to Berkeley California. They were joined by Miss Dorothy Hirschman who recently returned from Wenatchee Washington and will also attend the University at Berkeley.
Governor Erickson appoints three members to the Mississippi Valley Water Conservation commission for a two year term. The Montana Taxpayers association urges all taxpayers to attend budget meetings and scrutinize school and county budgets to prevent waste and protect against higher taxes.
Alf McFadden, piano instructor at Montana State Normal College, forms a Little Symphony during the summer term. More than 25 members signed up including townspeople and students. The group will perform at several public entertainments, with a roster listing violins, piano, strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion members.
