Free Trappers Raid California in 400 Horses Mission Tale
The story recounts 14 free trappers led by Killbuck and La Bonte who rode from Montana to southern California stealing 400 horses from Spanish missions. They faced Indian attacks, endured hunger, and returned via the Arkansas region after a brutal clash at San Fernando. Kit Carson and other famed frontiersmen joined later Taos revelry.
