Elks Ship Hides to Aid Vets Therapy Program
Elks lodges in Dillon Virginia City and Deer Lodge organized a large shipment of dry hides for a Los Angeles tannery to produce leather for occupational therapy at 125 veterans hospitals nationwide. Ranchers donated hides, the lodge packed them, Consolidated Freightways hauled the ton and a half free, Mark Williams oversaw storage, and this third such shipment in four years supports veterans welfare.

Vandals Damaged City Park Trees Friday Night
Police and the sheriff investigated vandalism at City Park where a car hit and knocked down several newly planted saplings around 11:30 PM. George Brown reported the crash after hearing the vehicle. Seven damaged saplings received first aid. another was broken off. Volunteers from the Jaycees and townspeople planted the trees as part of park improvements.

Diamond O Ranch Sale Near Point of Rocks Reported
Walter S. Jones announced the sale of the Diamond O Ranch in Beaverhead County. The transfer moves 7500 acres deeded and 1180 leased acres from Mr. and Mrs. Staudenmeyer to Mr. and Mrs. Leon Miller and Mr. Leon Miller Jr. of Liberty Missouri. The Staudenmeyers bought the ranch in 1916 from A. D. LaDue and will keep their Centennial ranch. The Millers, longtime Missouri farmers, also ran a Liberty feed company. six Miller children will move to the new holdings.

County Awards Hospital And Physician Contracts
County commissioners in their regular session last week accepted the bid of Dr. R. Wendell Poundstone to combine the services of county health officer and county physician at a salary of 325 dollars per month. Beaverhead Soil Conservation District earned second place honors in Montana's national soil conservation awards program judged by state officials.
