Senator George M Melton filed for the democratic nomination for congressman from the first district. Dan Mooney filed for the republican nomination for commissioner and W. G. Gilbert for state senator. Jack Fitzsimmons filed for coroner. Mooney, Beaverhead under sheriff 1916 21 and sheriff 1921 27, leads GOP county efforts. Gilbert, Dillon attorney, filed for state senate Monday, the first to enter that race.

Montana State Normal College Holds 39th Commencement
The Montana State Normal College held its thirty-ninth commencement at the college auditorium. President George Finlay Simmons of the State university delivered the address. Twelve degrees and 99 diplomas were conferred. President Sheldon H. Davie presented candidates, and Dr. R. K. Albright honored the senior graduates. The program featured the Little Symphony Orchestra, Jess Whitney’s vocal solo, and invocations by Rev. H. N. Tragitt.

Mrs. Herbert Hoover the national president of Girl Scouts paid a debt to the Dillon Girl Scout organization last Friday. A Girl Scout ceremony was conducted for Brownies leaders assistants and Normal students who took the course a Scouting program was noted.

Dance Revue Presented by Violette's School of the Dance
Pupils of Violette's School of the Dance staged a two part revue at the training school auditorium last Friday evening. The first act showcased Mother Goose characters with many named performers and noted charming costumes delighting the large crowd.

Changes in City Staff Announced At Council Meet
Mayor D A Galt announced several appointments at the city council meeting on Monday night. A C Gruwell resigned as police judge to join the police force, replacing Warren Sutherland who left to become custodian at the new post office. George Opp resigned as second ward alderman and was named police judge, with Fred Woodside becoming alderman in his place.

Graduation Play Given at College
The Montana State Normal College presented the annual commencement play Adam and Eva to a large audience in the college auditorium on Monday night. The comedy by Bolton and Middleton was directed by Myrtle Savidge with cast members including Schroer, Holbert, Curry, Kenny, Phelps, Rooney, Weitz, Desonia, Long, and Johnston. Production staff featured Gaines, Edwards, Simons, Brekke, Marsh, Strasser, Forsgren, Bovee, Schofield, Benson, Thompson, and Williams. Four Jacks to Return With Zeiger Acts Next Week
The Four Jacks, famed aerial act, will resume performances with C. F. Zeiger United Shows as the Dillon carnival opens Monday June 16 for a week under the Dillon volunteer fire department. One original Jack is absent after Sue Ulric was killed last month in a fall from the high tower. The troupe will perform at 135 feet, 15 feet higher than last year, without safety notes.

Keys of New Post Office Turned Over in Dillon

Youth Stabbed in Armstead Affray
Fred Gilbert Stillwell aged 28 was rushed to Barrett hospital with multiple knife wounds after an affray in an abandoned cabin near Armstead early this morning. Three companions were taken into custody and Stillwell said his memory was hazy about the incident. The stabbing occurred before noon but was not reported to police until later today.

Cleaning Works Robbery Stirs Local Authorities
A transient Lloyd Williams was arrested after the Paramount Cleaning plant was broken into Monday night. Officers say he had nearly the stolen cash and items from the repair work. A brown quilt and dark pants were missing, believed cached in the city. Williams was found asleep near the courthouse and is jailed. Bert Love pleaded guilty to writing two worthless checks at the Lyon pool hall and received 18 months in state prison.

Native of Blaine Dies in Dillon Area
George J. Reis 60 died last Wednesday at his sister Mrs. Roy Selway's Dillon home. A Blaine native he lived in Madison County and Beaverhead County most of his life. He served in the war and worked in ranching. Surviving: Mrs. Selway and Mrs. Leo Roland sisters, mother Mrs. Elia Reis, brothers Jesse and Ed of Dillon and Dan of Big Timber, several uncles and aunts. Thirty four eighth grade graduates of the Dillon public school received their diplomas at a Thursday afternoon commencement in the college auditorium. Superintendent Charles Henry presented the class and A F Waldorf chaired the school board. Graduates Kenneth Mount Jo Ann Deputy John Wedum Barbara Holloran and Joe Taylor spoke. Rev Willis J Loar offered invocation and benediction. The program included musical selections by the choir.
