Dillon Woman Dies After Vehicle Collision

Mrs Jens P. Christensen was struck by a car near Dillon last Sunday and died shortly after arriving at Barrett Hospital. The incident prompted a police investigation and safety reminders for pedestrians in busy city streets.

Inquest Held on Driver of Car in Fatal Beaverhead Crash

Marie Christensen, wife of Jens P Christensen, a Beaverhead rancher, was fatally injured Sunday night when struck by a car driven by Edgar Williams on the Twin Bridges highway just north of Dillon. She died shortly after arrival at Barrett hospital. The inquest notes Williams as the driver.

Beaverhead Mining group elects Metlen president

OE Metlen Beaverhead county's representative in the state legislature was elected president of the Beaverhead Mining association at the annual election held Saturday night at the courthouse. Senator Pearl I Smith was named vice president, Roy B Herndon re-elected secretary, J I C Fuller chosen treasurer, and Matt Orr named to the board of directors representing the Blacktall district as the sole new member.

Beaverhead Board to Meet with Highway Commission

The Beaverhead County board of commissioners will hold a special joint session with the state highway commission next Monday afternoon, June 15, at the courthouse. Clerk and Recorder Albert S. Baker announced the meeting to discuss the proposed viaduct over the Oregon Short Line tracks south of Lima.

Drum corps dance at Dillmont park linked to Elk lodges

Butte and Anaconda Elk lodge drum corps sponsor a dance at Dillmont park next Saturday night with Baxter Tonrey orchestra. Dillon corps helps fund street maintenance machine purchase approved by the city council. Proceeds aid Dillon corps. parade and exhibition by drum corps anticipated.

Dillon Man Wins Salmon Canoe Contest

Frank Braden and Alonzo Wwright were sentenced to three years in state prison after pleading guilty to burglary in Dell. Earl Kelly drew seven months for giving liquor to a minor. Ouis Schmittroth and Monroe Hancock of Salmon won the six mile canoe race in 48 minutes, with Dillon and Stevensville crews placing high. A Salmon celebration drew many Dillon attendees.

Free Circus Tickets For Beaverhead County Youths

A large group of Beaverhead county boys and girls will attend the A. G. Barnes circus next Monday free, earned through six months of newspaper subscriptions secured by themselves. The offer grants access to the main show, side show, and Wild Wear show, with poorer youngsters needing to purchase separate tickets for the latter two events. Subscriptions can be turned in this week.

Montana Eastern Star Leader Visits Mizpah Chapter

Mrs Mertie M Brattin grand worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Montana paid her official visit to Mizpah chapter last night. She attended a reception at the Masonic hall, spoke on order affairs, and a large portion of the chapter joined the regular session and dinner.

Ninety two seniors of the Montana State Normal College receive diplomas at the spring quarter commencement in the college auditorium. Dr. William Trufant Foster delivers the address. diplomas are conferred by Chancellor M A Brannon and presented by President S E Davis. Regular Session of Beaverhead County Commissioners June 1 1931

The Beaverhead county commissioners held their regular monthly session starting June 1 1931 at 9 00 am with Commissioners Jackson Hartwig Gosman and Clerk Baker present. Minutes of the last session were approved and numerous budget transfers were ordered including reallocation of funds across clerk recorder justice court elections highways and labor totaling several thousand dollars.

Mixed Foursome Golf Tourney Draws Tied First

Last Sunday at Dillon Country Club two couples led the two ball mixed foursome event with a 49 for nine holes. Participants included 188 Mille Adams and Ralph Harding with Mrs Anson Baxter and Dr W H Stephan. The tournament drew many members, refreshments were provided by club ladies, and it marked the season's second event.

Helena Bankers Visit Dillon For Golf Day

Fred Heinecke a Helena banker spent Sunday in Dillon enjoying golf at the Dillon Country club. Lester Loble also visited from Helena and left with his daughter Clarice who has been attending high school here and living with her aunt Mrs W B Hartwig.

Agronomist Tests Soil In Beaverhead County

R N Herborg an agronomist for Anaconda Copper Mining fertilizer department toured Beaverhead county in March. He inspected and sampled soils around Dillon with Bernard Williams at the high school and laid out experimental plots using treb le Super phosphats to boost crop yields.

Former Dillon Student Slain by Her Husband in Sacramento

Thelma Holliday Smittle a 24 year old former Dillon and Montana State Normal college student was shot and killed by her husband 24 in Sacramento California Monday night They had been married three months and separated a month ago The husband Her man Smittle was arrested after attempting suicide and reconciliation at the mother in law's home Mrs R W Holliday Thelma Smittle was active in student activities including the girls glee club during her time at Normal college

New Contract on Butte to Dillon Route to Be Let

A new contract for the Butte to Dillon motor mail route will be let on June 30, announced by Postmaster J. C. Fuller. The agreement covers all first class mail newspapers special delivery and parcel post while retaining the present schedule with mail leaving Butte daily except Sunday at 4 a.m. and arriving in Dillon by 6 a.m.
