Sandy Lane, longtime placer-miner, government scout, and Pony Express driver, died peacefully Friday at 209 East Silver Street, surrounded by family. Born in Princeton, Wisconsin, he came to Montana in the 1860s, worked mining, then as a government scout in Yellowstone country and Fort Silia, later driving stages between Virginia City, Helena, and Bozeman, and serving in Howard's command during the Nez Perce war.

City Council Rejects All Bids For Cement Walk
At a Friday night meeting the city council, with all members present except Orr and Lenkerndorfer, rejected all bids for the cement walk and ordered advertisements for new bids to open at the next regular meeting on August 6.
