State to sue Cascade Silver Mines over polluted Belt Creek
The state of Montana files an injunction suit in Lewis and Clark district court through Attorney General J. C. Ford against Cascade Silver Mines and Mills Co of Neihart. The case seeks to protect fish and water quality in Belt Creek, arguing mining tailings pollute streams used for fishing and livestock. The company estimates purification costs around 300000, while the state says cheaper remedies exist. H Lowndes Maury leads Cascade Mines at Neihart.
